Inmate Text App
If you have a friend or family member who is currently imprisoned, the best option to stay in touch is to use an inmate texting application. These apps are designed to comply with prison regulations and allow family members as well as friends to send and receive messages pictures, eCards, video calls, and even money into their trust account at the prison. There are also federal inmate apps which provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
The JPay application, for instance allows family and friends to transfer money into the trust account of an inmate, along with photos, email, eCards and video grams. They can also design personal postcards by using their own photographs. It is a safer, more secure alternative to postal mail.
Another popular inmate text application is GettingOut, which offers "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app is available at selected correctional facilities, and allows inmates to upload photos and communicate with friends and family via their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 for each message, and loved ones pay for the information used to access their messages (but not for explicit photos). The GettingOut app can be used to upload a photo to Facebook or Foursquare, check-in to Foursquare and add an YouTube video.
